"Just got back from sim last night. Been on leave for 11 weeks. First duty after all that time off was to go to Melbourne for two days in sim. I passed with all 4s last night which is as good as it gets, more importantly I didn’t kill myself with stress. Can’t tell you how much you and your course helped me and continues to do so."

"Captivating presenter with a wealth of relevant experience and examples that I could relate to. It was healthy to have an opportunity to be vulnerable among peers. I found the situation statement particularly useful, along with strategies for startle and the check preparation guide. After day one the stress of anticipating my looming upgrade training was gone."
★★★★★
"Thank you very much for giving us an opportunity to have the great experience of your course. It was a very eye-opening experience participating. Your explanations of how we see the world refreshed my recognition of what matters. It makes complete sense and the exercises helped a lot to grip the ideas very well."

"If he offered a week long course on anything to do with psychology/the mind I would go along. I’ve never seen one person have such a diverse group of people’s attention so strongly. He did not rely on the power point presentation as a guide like most presenters, he listened and guided the group intently. Passionate, informative and just brilliant. I would love to hear of any other course topics. Please consider coming to Christchurch, you won’t have any issue filling spots."

"Terrific course. Ray is a wealth of knowledge. Lots of examples resonated with me and others. I was on the course for different reasons than some. More a professional development ... Will definitely recommend to others."

"A good balance of theory and practical advice. Gave me an understanding of where I was having issues and I am now much better equipped if those things recur. I have already been able to implement some of these strategies in a simulator detail - with great results. Thank you for providing this course, it appears I was not alone in that boat!"

"Since the course I have built up a significant resilience to the startle reflex to failures both on line and in the sim and I’m not getting rattled. My recent first day of the sim was probably one of my best command performances so far involving an emergency I had never seen before and I was glad I had excess mental capacity to handle it. Day two involved an emergency I had seen before. It started well but a few demons of past experience decided to haunt me. With a quick sit back to get into the now, I was able to get back into the game. This was the only moment where I lost traction in 8 hours so I was very pleased. I am also able to leave work and disconnect. So I’m back. Thank you doesn’t convey enough about how I feel, but it will have to do."

"I wanted to update you on my sim experience this past weekend... It was awesome!!...
It was such a great feeling having my full facilities available, total situational awareness and being completely present during all of the sequences. I was able to sleep prior to sim, eagerly turned up for sim and when the Checkie was swapped out for a “tougher” Checkie, I didn’t panic or miss a beat. It felt great to be “in the zone” and looking forward to my next sim."

"The course has given me the tools that will not only prepare me to better handle the stress of checks, but also the tools that I can apply to some life challenges in general. I keep the “Performance Passport” in my Flight-bag ( for quick reference! ) and a printed copy of the Course Summary at hand. They both reinforce how invaluable the course was, and your skill as a facilitator at getting your points across by allowing the “students” to self analyse and find their own way to a solution. I will be passing on my whole-hearted recommendation for your course to anyone that is interested, or I feel could benefit (thats everyone)."

"I found the course to be the best preparation for command."

"I must say this was the single best personal and professional development course I have ever been involved with. In reviewing my notes, and reading the summary, the overall concepts; especially ‘ the situation itself, is not the problem’ seem so obvious, yet hitherto not part of my daily ’SA scan'. Thanks for providing the tools to see these ideas and be aware of implementing them in everyday life, not just on the flight deck."

"Brilliant. Could easily be a three day course. I believe the advertising for the course is the only area that needs serious attention as it implies that the course is for people wanting to improve check performance.... it is so much more than that!... Every pilot considering being a mentor, training or check position would do well to do this course. If I was chief pilot of my organisation, it would be mandatory. In fact all pilots in command of multi crew aircraft would benefit. This course is not just for pilots under check/training but for the other end of the relationship too. Glad that finally there is this course available for pilots and I am of the firm opinion that it could be the start of a great change in our industry. This course has the ability to be a great mitigating factor in this area especially early in a pilots career. Couldn’t recommend enough. I would also recommend it for CASA personnel and DAME’s.
PS. The day after the course someone had written on our briefing room white board the statement “WHAT WOULD RAY DO!” Great way to start the day."

"An outstanding course that I would and will recommend to anyone who requires high performance in their workplace or personal lives. An excellent facilitator who brings passion and a very high level of expertise to this subject matter. This is a course for anyone from any profession who seeks the best from themselves and their people."

"Through elements of the course, not only am I enjoying the career aspects of my life more but my family life has improved enormously. I have used the ‘situation statement’ to great effect in both my professional and in my personal life. For these things I cannot thank you enough."

"Backing up every one of the strategies and concepts with real life stories and the background science not only makes the two-day course extremely interesting but also very hard to find fault with the content."

"Would have been happy to do another day! Most beneficial course I’ve done as an airline pilot - 13 years. One of the most memorable in my 26 year career in aviation."

"Great course! Thoroughly enjoyed the hard questions and the stories that were shared across the group; generated comradery and highlighted the bigger picture."

"Thank you... the course hit the nail on the head for me. You were able to articulate what we were going through and knew exactly what to do to fix it. Perfect. The style and content was spot on. Even after day one I was already feeling much less anxious. I had previously assumed it was just my make-up to get nervous before checks and had to just put up with it. I'm glad this is not the case."

"Walked into a Sim within the week, a lot more relaxed before even getting into the room, and with that the rest of the session went by without apprehension. Did another sim the other day, same levels of relaxation. Priorities are more aligned with the task at hand now. Most enjoyable course, learnt a lot about myself."

"From my Chair point of view, I was impressed with the content—this goes to the heart of TEC’s concentration on authentic leadership. Your personal references, video clips and interactive style were also a good fit for our group. Your scores from the group feedback survey were in the highest category for speakers to TEC52 for presentation skills, take home value/tools/ideas/ handouts."
Chairman TEC 52, The Executive Connection
"Your presentation day was one of the most moving I've experienced in 30 years of policing. The emotional intelligence, the skills in decision making in a crisis and particularly your leadership style will shape how I do business in the future on a professional and personal level. Please keep imparting your knowledge, skills and experience on others.”

"This course was indeed one of the best, if not the best and most enjoyable sessions I have attended in years. It was really worthwhile, productive session from which I actually derived something of a permanent nature. And it was not just work related; it was a life embracing educational day that will remain with me long after I've finished doing what I am doing now. I thank you for that."
