Getting started

About Human Ballistics.

What exactly does Human Ballistics do?

We help competent professionals perform at their best under pressure. The method comes from aviation and the science of stress, and it targets "checkitis" (underperforming during a check or exam), the startle reflex, and the loss of situational awareness that pressure causes.

Who is it for?

It began with airline pilots and most participants are pilots, from cadets to command. The same tools work for doctors, surgeons, police, mining professionals, athletes and leaders. Anyone whose performance is judged under pressure.

Do I need to be a pilot?

No. The principles apply to any high-stakes performance. The examples are drawn from many fields, and non-pilots are very welcome.

Who runs it?

Captain Ray Werndly, who has spent more than 35 years in aviation, including 22 years as a flight instructor and examiner. He built the Performance Course in 2010, and it has helped over a thousand professional pilots.

Where are you based, and where do you deliver?

We are based in Perth, Western Australia. Courses run across Australia and New Zealand, and coaching is available anywhere over Zoom.

The Performance Course

The two-day course.

What does the Performance Course cost?

A$900 per person in Australia and A$850 in New Zealand. This includes both full days and all course materials.

How long is it and what are the hours?

Two full days, usually 0830 to 1730 each day.

How many people are in a course?

A maximum of twelve. Small groups keep the room honest and the coaching personal.

I have a check coming up. Will this help in time?

Yes. Many people attend specifically before a check, an exam or a return to line flying. If your date is very close, ask about one-on-one coaching as well.

Can you run a course just for my airline or team?

Yes. In-house and team programs are available. See the CRM and Human Factors page or get in touch.

When and where is the next course?

Dates and locations are listed on the Performance Course page. Register your interest early, seats are limited to twelve.

Coaching and Fly Calm

Private sessions.

How many one-on-one sessions will I need?

It depends on your situation. Tell us what you are preparing for and we will recommend the right number.

What is Fly Calm?

A short, private program for nervous flyers. Three one-hour sessions covering how flying really works, the mental skills to stay calm, and practical methods to keep composure in the air.

What does Fly Calm cost?

A$750 for the complete three-session program, in person in Perth or online over Zoom.

Does Fly Calm really work?

We believe in it strongly. Fly Calm runs on a "no win, no fee" basis. If you would like to understand exactly how that works for your situation, get in touch and we will explain the details before you begin.
